GORILLA
Wanted to give as much advance notice as I could for anyone in Vancouver on these two days. Come on by the HR booth and I’ll see you! I’ll be twittering the play by play of the actual sale, so come on over and say hello!

getting coached and encouraged!
My daugher was riding her bike and taking photos, my husband was running with me, both were coaching me on. Todays workout was a family effort and really meant a lot to me. It’s nice to have that difference on the workout from time to time, not just zoning out to the beat of your own breath. Listening to everything around and watching my daugher zoom by on her bike, seeing how my husbands cardio is so good from his daily workouts that he’s been doing. He was running at such a fast pace it was encouraging.
running with my husband
We stuck through the workout as a family even in the rain. Shows perserverence and we had on all the right gear so it was easier. My core gets really hot when I run so I prefer just a tech t and warmers. I really need to retire the shorts though and go for some tights!
The hat was a good choice because it wasn’t quite cold enough for a tuke. That will be in a week or two. My husband is wearing a zap jacket and that worked very well. He’s going to try some R+R socks next time see what the difference is.
I’m pretty excited to do some more family training sessions, it was very heart warming seeing us all together and encouraging and helping each other. Plus they really helped keep me going just being there. Meant a lot to me.
If you were working out 5-6 times a week how many times do you exercise alone, with a group or with family? Do you switch it up? Tell me!

fog cold and quiet
I’m really enjoying my time on the bike. It’s giving me a lot of peace and helping me find quiet in the day. Just getting away from everything and taking some time to see nature. It’s really helping me find that inner quiet.
There was an eagle back at the beginning of the trail that was singing for so long. I hadn’t heard one make their own noise for that long, it’s was really amazing. Then higher up on the trail the fog was just hovering in the middle of the mountains, cliffs were dark and soaked, the path was riddled with pine needles and leaves but not too slippery so you could go fast down the curves.
I
Getting more confident on the bike, not as fearful as I was when I first started out. I couldn’t believe how different it was from when I used to ride. I used to go so fast and never really thought about it, now I had so much more going through my mind but I am starting to find that confidence and going faster now, feeling stronger, able to ride further, up steeper hills and not be sore the next day or the day after. On this ride when I started on the downhill and went fast, really fast. I let out a “YAAAAAHHOOOOO!” and heard it echo in the forest. Was so much fun. Just leaning into the curves and not feeling fearful.

the start of the hill
Not feeling fearful because I was confident. And I was having a lot of fun out there, needed some quiet to reground myself, to clear my head, to really relax mentally. It was worth it, glad I made the effort to get out there. Even saw the sun for a moment but it even smelled amazing outside. I had a hard time relaxing all week and this was just what I needed. Will be back next week rain or shine!
I didn’t think my regular meals/snacks were really an issue until I wrote down what I was eating for three days, then stood back, re-read it and had a pretty good reality check. It wasn’t horrific at all however I had a lot of work to do, I had a lot of self checking to do as well. It was pretty emotional. So many things were racing through my mind. I used to be athletic, I used to never overeat before, I used to I used to I used to…….
Enough of the past!
There was obviously a reason why I gained 40lbs from where I was 10-15 years ago. And that is what I needed to dig into to correct and start to rebuild my habits. It was hard, the realization of what I had been doing over the years, just the reality of it, finally looking at it. I absolutely used food as a reward for every special occasion, every accomplishment and did what my mom did many many years ago. If something great happened we would celebrate with food.
Then I would piece things together. Whenever I felt really good or had a great accomplishment I’d run to the grocery store and have a treat night, pizza…etc.
If we finally had a moment to have a nice family breakfast I’d overcook because I was so happy to spend quality time with everyone due to our hectic schedule. Then the leftover food I would snack on while I was running around getting the errands done. I didn’t want the food to go to waste and didn’t make the time to pack it up for the next day and eat the leftovers for lunch. Basically my thought process was THERE’S NO TIME GO GO GO! Plus I was still eating at the capacity that I did when I was pregnant, my stomach was stretched and never full, I never stood back and said, ok I’m not pregnant anymore I shouldn’t have to eat for two….I just never thought about it.
The worst is when you forget to eat and then grab whatever I could to eat to not pass out, something fast and filling. This is a bad cycle to get into. As soon as you can realize what you are doing you can fix it. And that’s where Adrienne and Eating For Energy came into the picture.
Not only was she absolutely approachable, listened to every word I said with such care but really dialed out my own program to fit my needs, special for me. She learned about who I am and what I do. Was so patient and supportive, so friendly. I was intimidated before I walked in that door and as soon as I sat down she welcomed me with open arms.

Step one
Here is where I was after a few meetings with her, with my daily eating habits modified. This was step one. More work to do but this is not bad!
Writing down what you are doing, being real about it, don’t skip anything you are doing will help you see if you are getting the proper requirements and help you see when you are cluster eating, if you are. Or see what type of food you normally run to at certain times of the day.
Then the next step is TAKING THE TIME to prepare your meals for the next day. You have to do it. It’s not the fact that you don’t have time because a lot of people don’t have time, you have to make time and do it. It takes me 10 minutes to prepare my meals for the next day and my daughters meals too! If I can get this done in 10 minutes so can you. Don’t get caught up in you are tired, you have too many errands to run, your work day was too hectic, you just need a moment to relax…..MAKE THE TIME.
I usually prepare my meals around 8pm when things START to slow down in my day no matter how tired I am. As soon as I don’t do this I run to Starbucks and get something that really isn’t bad but usually loaded with extra calories. Even one week of regular trips to said coffee place I put on 3 pounds….STICK TO PREPARING YOUR MEALS!
I usually twitter about getting ready to prepare my meals for the next day around 8pm, talking myself into it. If you want a push at that time too let me know and I’ll send you a message!

Ski to Sea Kelowna
Riding through the demo forest the other day really zoomed me back in time for a moment when I was in the Ski to Sea race in Kelowna. That race was so much fun. I enjoyed every bit of it. We had a relay team and I was on the road bike portion. The road was steep and curved and fast! Some good hills. People on the sides with cowbells cheering you on. Which pushed me harder. The energy was outstanding. Doing your best to not let down the next person in your team, waiting to see their face as they were so excited you were nearing that point to tag them to get to their portion of the race. So much fun.
I miss the night before a triathlon and the morning of the race. The atmosphere. How you are feeling yourself. Everything that has led up to that point. Going through everything, so focused, people walking around with the same look on their face with the morning cool and quiet. You set up your bike, get your transition gear ready. Take a moment to yourself. Then it slowly starts to get louder and louder as more people arrive picking up packages, bibs, signing in. Then you are in your heat, focused, waiting, can’t sit down, keep standing, waiting, shaking out your arms. Wanting to dive right in. Just get out there. Not even thinking of the end, just the beginning.
I really miss that.
What is your most favorite pre-race moment?

blah~!
This is what I felt like BEFORE I went to yoga.

hamstring heaven
And now my hamstrings are singing HALLELUJIA because of yoga.
My knees are singing happy songs because of yoga.

and twist
My lower back is happy.
It’s a lot of fun being in the class, it’s very different from everything else I’m doing, even the atmosphere. Probably the only time in the day where everything…………slows…………..down………..and you can………….breathe.
I find that it’s helping me listen to my body better, more in tune with how I am feeling. More of a connection with my body. Treating myself better. It’s also a lot of fun and can be funny at times when you are torqued in radical positions, some are able to bend that way and some are learning. The ones that are struggling can relate to each other and giggle a bit. The teacher is yoga boot camp with a dash of serenity. I make sure my posture is perfect because she will walk over and yank up my hips if I’m not paying attention.
YES MA’AM! HIPS UP!
I even feel different at the end of the session. Where it’s quiet and you are laying on the floor relaxing every part of your body, clearing your mind, hearing nothing. It was very emotional. Just hearing nothing, relaxing, taking a minute to yourself to find your peace for the day. Amazing. It really is the only time in the day where I hear nothing and can relax. Finally give my body a break, a well deserved break. I’m usually the road runner during the day, not just with workouts but with work and errands. Even my dreams are packed with NOW NOW NOW get it all done NOW NOW NOW!
Maybe I should do yoga twice a week, twice the peace, twice the quiet. Twice in the week taking care of myself. If anyone would like to join in on the serenity please do so! I’ve really noticed a difference and it’s helping me find that balance, could do the same for you!
