Such a great day and a great turnout.  We had a fast running group up front, middle pace group and a walking pace.  Everyone had a great time.  It’s a great chance for everyone to unwind, get some exercise, clear the mind and bond with one another.  I know that it helps me in the day, plus I have so much fun hanging out with everyone.

watch out for the fast pack!

If anyone would like to join you are more than welcome!   Every Wednesday out front of SUGOI at noon.

The more the merrier, let’s all BE INCREDIBLE!

I’d like to hear stories on how you have inspired others.

I’m doing the best I can to be a positive role model for my daughter, living each day to be proud of myself.  Trying to make every effort one to better the world and everything in it.  I do feel that I need more creative down time.  I’m still working on that balance but I’m making an effort daily on how I can help others and hopefully be inspirational to someone.  Even something that may seem trivial, one action can make an impact on someones life or help inspire them to do something great.

What have you done, something that made you feel as if you had inspired someone, did something to help someone else out through a challenge or life lesson.  Tell me your story.  The more we share together the more we can inspire and learn.

RTCC

I had an opportunity to meet someone pretty amazing right in our SUGOI neighborhood.  I heard that the Olympic torch was featured at the Mt.Pleasant newly set up recreation center and went over there to check it out.  I saw a man standing with the torch offering free pictures, answering questions about the torch and showing the burn marks on the metal from where the flame was.  He was in full gear head to toe showing Canadian spirit but is working for a much greater cause.

Pat Brand is raising funds for his Ride to Conquer Cancer journey.  He talked about how cancer has affected his family and a realization of how many people are affected all over the world.  There isn’t a family that doesn’t have stories of lives taken and have struggled from this disease.  Mine included.

It was a great opportunity for me to meet Pat and hear his story.  If you would like to help raise funds for his RTCC ride, his personal fundraising page can be found here.

If you’re in Vancouver, there will be a Share the Torch neighbourhood night at:

Wednesdays @ noon!

I’ve gathered a great group of SUGOI people together to get out and exercise at noon on Wednesdays. Your choice if you want to run up front at a steady/fast pace for an hour, in the middle with a moderate pace for 30mins to one hour or come and hang out in the back of the bus and walk for 20-40 mins! Whatever you choose it will be fun!  Some of the staff will be training for the 10K and the Sun Run marathon.  Feel free to train with them at your pace!

We will all meet out front of SUGOI at noon on Wednesdays. 144 East 7th Ave. Our office isn’t open to the general public so we will all meet outside.

If you would like to sign up for our newsletters or sign up to regularly run with us we have a sheet to add your name/email. I’ll keep you posted on any great SUGOI deals and JANE updates!

These run/walk sessions will be documented by myself with video, pictures and I may interview one or all of you. Everything will be posted on the JANE site on Thursdays. If you would like to walk/run but don’t want to be filmed or interviewed just let me know and I’ll make sure to not interfere.

We only have a few weeks before SUGOI moves to North Burnaby so let’s have some running/walking fun in Vancouver while we still can!

I’ll be out there on Wednesday Feb 10th and I hope to see you there!

I notice a difference in my kick now that I’m doing drills with fins on.  Immediately after the fins are off my kick is different and more efficient.  It’s nice to see progress in technique.  The swim is my favorite, it’s the only time I feel that sense of calm in the day, I don’t think about anything but breath and technique.  It’s nice to just go into that mode, clear your head and give your mind a break.

There’s so many different people at the pool, all ages, all shapes and sizes, different swimming methods.  Some training plans all supplied by coaches, some people have their own methods that has worked for them for years.  Some people will do the butterfly for about 4000m non stop and pretty much run you over if you attempt to get in the way.

It’s interesting how people interact when there is a bit of a traffic jam in the lane.  It’s also interesting to see how people pick the lane that they are going to swim in.  You see three lanes that have no label on them and another few lanes that are signed with moderate and fast.

I’m not a phenomenal swimmer but I can hold my own, I go into the moderate lane.  I wouldn’t go into the fast lane because it’s too stressful for me to think I’m holding anyone up or that someone is on my toes.  Kind of like the jaws theory, or like having 3 brothers chasing you in the pool grabbing your feet…..

I end up in the moderate lane and sometimes I need to pass someone but I won’t, I’ll just slow up and play in the bubbles.  Wait at the end of the lane another 30 seconds and then go.  Is that too polite?  I’m in between moderate and fast.  Maybe I can make up a new lane called “more than moderate but not fast yet” or “almost fast”

Here’s my workout today.

300 warm up as 200 swim, 50 kick, 50 drill
4×50 swim @ 1:30
2×200 swim w/ :60 rest
4×50 pull @ 1:30
1×200 pull w/ 2:00 rest
4×50 w/fins @ 1:30
1×300 w/fins w/ 2:00 rest
100 cool down

Was pretty good, felt strong, not winded at all.  That’s a good sign.  Encouraging.  Gives me more confidence as this winter I’m going to be doing some serious training.  Need to psyche myself up!  Coach has a plan and it’s all going to pay off in the spring!
